Affirmative Intention / Unity Prayer

WHAT IT IS

Our Affirmative Intention differs from many traditional religious prayer practices in several key ways:

1. Affirmation Rather Than Supplication
Traditional prayer is often spoken in a pleading or supplicatory tone—asking for favour or intervention. In contrast, our Affirmative Intention begins with the understanding that everything in the universe is interconnected and full of possibility. We affirm from this awareness, rather than to a distant God “out there.”

2. Emphasis on Oneness
Unity teachings affirm that we are one with the Divine, inherently connected this Universal presence, power, and love. Affirmative Intention is not about reaching out to a separate being; instead, it’s a conscious recognition of our oneness and an opening of our minds and hearts to spiritual Truth.

3. Focus on Spiritual Truth
Rather than dwelling on lack or limitation, Affirmative Intention focuses on spiritual principles such as wholeness, abundance, peace, and love. This shifts the energy from fear or worry to confidence in this Universal good.

4. Use of Denials and Affirmations
In Unity, a “denial” is a gentle refusal to give power to negative or limiting beliefs, while an “affirmation” is a positive statement of spiritual truth, such as “I am whole and well in Spirit.” These tools help reorient our thoughts, feelings, and expectations to align with divine reality.

5. Practice of Gratitude
Gratitude is central to Affirmative Intention. By cultivating a thankful heart, even in the midst of challenges, we open ourselves to perceiving and receiving the blessings already present. This is a powerful shift from a mindset of “if only…” to one of “Thank you!”

Overall, Affirmative Intention is an inward, affirmative, and deeply personal practice that supports the realization of our divine nature and the transformative power already at work in our lives.
